This year is the first year that we are able to return to eighth-grade classrooms and recruit students to join journalism. To have diverse coverage, it is essential to have a diverse staff with differing life experiences and perspectives. When we start to travel to classrooms in late February, we are taking a representative group of staff and have put together a presentation for the classes.

Story Selection

While creating the newspaper ladder with my Co-EIC each cycle, it is important that we share articles that are representative of the West community. When we are uplifting previously marginalized stories, readers are able to connect over shared experiences and strengthen the community.
